Ventura County is Full of Great, Local Restaurants
Los Angeles loves to be in the spotlight, and rightfully so. Home to movie stars, celebrities and pro athletes, it's no wonder the cameras and attention flock to LA. Then there's our beloved Santa Barbara, Goleta, Isla Vista and Montecito area that's home to some exceptionally-great restaurants, wonderful scenery, a beautiful coastline and luxurious real estate. But what's along the coast in between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara?
Shhh! Ventura County is Southern California's Best-Kept Secret, Especially for Great, Local Restaurants. Ventura County Offers Great Food in a Perfect, California Climate
There's great food in LA, and there's great food in Santa Barbara. But don't discount Ventura County's independent, local restaurants. There are a ton of excellent restaurants of all types in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo - and we even grouped Malibu's restaurants in with Ventura County, just because they're practically right down the street, right down the world-famous Pacific Coast Highway. French, Italian, Brazilian, Mexican, Seafood, Organic - you name it and you can find it in Ventura County.

When LA and the rest of Southern California gets hit with a heat wave, you can always escape from Los Angeles and get to Malibu, Oxnard or Ventura. Right along this stretch of coast, the temperature typically stays between 70-80 degrees, even on LA's hottest summer days.
Likewise, when Santa Barbara and the central coast to the north is under cloudy skies, Ventura, Oxnard and Malibu are often able to serve up a healthy dose of much-needed sunshine alongside a great meal at a local, restaurant. In fact, if you're ever in the mood for an ocean-view restaurant, but not in the mood to spend an entire paycheck, some of the best dining deals can be found in Ventura and Oxnard. Both cities have a great variety of cuisine overlooking the Pacific Ocean, or even peering out over the masts of all the boats settled in at the harbor in each city. While there is a good variety of fine dining in Ventura County, a lot of the oceanfront restaurants are actually quite moderately priced, if not downright inexpensive (but still quite tasty!).

Places to Eat in Ventura County
Here's something you can do that just might make for a great day all around: on Seaward Avenue in Ventura, there's a group of restaurants, as well as an independent cafe and bakery, right before you reach the beach, and they're all good. Take your time and spend the day eating whatever you're in the mood for, then stroll one block to the beach and watch the pelicans dive in the ocean, hunting for fish. This is absolutely spectacular and if you've never seen it, you'll never forget it.
Of course, Ventura County does have its more-inland cities as well, and each of them has spectacular dining and restaurants, too. Cities like Camarillo, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley are well-stocked with burger joints, Mexican restaurants, great BBQ, fine dining, and romantic getaways for dinner. In fact, for those of you who are die-hard Top Chef fans, you'll recognize the Italian-born owner of Cafe Firenze in Moorpark, Fabio Viviani. Not that we want you to stalk the guy, but you already know he's a great chef, so you might wanna check out his menu at his local restaurant.
And at the northern end of Ventura Country, tucked away in the hills along the backroads, there's Ojai, Fillmore and Santa Paula. While this area is pretty small in terms of population, you could spend a month there and not eat at the same restaurant twice. Best of all, you'd never be disappointed with whatever it is you order at any of the restaurants in the area. Ojai, Fillmore and Santa Paula offer fine dining (along with day spas galore in Ojai), country-style meals, fresh, local produce and meats, authentic international cuisine from all over, local wines and a lot more.
Not that we want to let our little secret out to too many people about Ventura County's local restaurants being among the best in the country, we do want to let our best friends come and join Local Saute at the never-ending Ventura County beach party... just don't tell too many people, otherwise everyone will know about our little secret!
